Inside the Formula: Shastrokta Wisdom & Modern Research
In Ayurveda, most body and joint pain is vata vyadhi. "Vinā vātam na shūlam": there is no pain without vata. Pain Care follows this logic. It uses the complete classical Dashamoola, warming agni herbs that clear ama, vata-shamaka rasayanas and the classical rasa-yoga Vatagajankusha Rasa.
Dashamoola (the ten roots) · Bilva, Agnimantha, Shyonaka, Patala, Shalaparni, Prishniparni, Brihati, Kantakari, Gokshura
Shastrokta view: Dashamoola is the most celebrated vata-shamaka group in Ayurveda. It is anti-inflammatory (shothahara) and pain-relieving (shulahara), and it forms the base of many classical oils and decoctions for joints and nerves.
Vatagajankusha Rasa · Classical preparation
Shastrokta view: A classical rasa-yoga for vata vyadhi such as gridhrasi (sciatica) and stiff, painful joints. Its name means "the goad that controls the elephant of vata".
Pippali, Pippalimoola, Chavya, Chitraka & Kali Mirch · Piper longum · Piper chaba · Plumbago zeylanica · Piper nigrum
Shastrokta view: Pippali, Pippalimoola, Chavya and Chitraka belong to the classical panchakola group of agni-deepana herbs, and Kali Mirch joins them here. Together they digest the ama that blocks the channels (srotas) and so keep pain from setting in.
पिप्पली दीपनी वृष्या स्वादुपाका रसायनी।
अनुष्णा कटुका स्निग्धा वातश्लेष्महरी लघुः॥
— Bhavaprakasha Nighantu
Meaning: Pippali kindles agni, is a rasayana and removes vata and kapha.
Manjishtha, Shirisha & Kadamba · Rubia cordifolia · Albizia lebbeck · Anthocephalus cadamba
Shastrokta view: Manjishtha is the classical rakta-shodhaka (blood purifier). Shirisha is anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory, and Kadamba is cooling and shothahara.
Ajmoda, Padmakh, Mochras & Elua · Apium graveolens · Prunus cerasoides · Bombax ceiba · Aloe barbadensis
Shastrokta view: Ajmoda is a classical vata-anulomaka (it moves vata downward), Mochras and Padmakh support the tissues, and Elua (aloe resin) is a mild purgative that clears vata.
