Inside the Formula: Shastrokta Wisdom & Modern Research
Ayurveda describes the liver (yakrit) as the root of raktavaha srotas and the seat of ranjaka pitta. Fatty liver is understood as a build-up of kapha and meda with weak agni. Fatty Liv Care combines the classical yakrit herbs (Punarnava, Kumari, Kalmegh, Rohitaka, Kakamachi) with agni-deepana herbs and the classical rasa-yoga Arogyavardhini.
Kumari (Ghritkumari) · Aloe barbadensis
Shastrokta view: Cooling and bitter, Kumari is a rasayana and is classically described for yakrit-pliha vriddhi (enlarged liver and spleen).
कुमारी भेदनी शीता तिक्ता नेत्र्या रसायनी।
— Bhavaprakasha Nighantu
Meaning: Kumari (aloe) is cooling, bitter and a rasayana. The same text lists it for enlargement of the liver and spleen (yakrit-pliha vriddhi).
Rohitaka, Chitraka & Shunthi · Tecomella undulata · Plumbago zeylanica · Zingiber officinale
Shastrokta view: Rohitaka is the classical herb for yakrit-pliha disorders (the basis of Rohitakarishta). Chitraka is the strongest agni-deepana herb, and Shunthi digests ama. Together they restart a sluggish agni.
चित्रकः कटुकः पाके वह्निकृत् पाचनो लघुः।
रूक्षोष्णो ग्रहणीकुष्ठशोथार्शःकृमिकासनुत्॥
— Bhavaprakasha Nighantu
Meaning: Chitraka is the strongest kindler of agni (vahnikrit) and digester of ama.
Arogyavardhini Rasa & Mandoor Bhasma · Classical preparations
Shastrokta view: Arogyavardhini is a classical rasa-yoga used for kushtha and liver disorders, with Kutki as its main herb. Mandoor bhasma (purified iron oxide) is the classical preparation for pandu and yakrit vikara.
